Workshops
Tiger & Magpie Workshop at Sachem Public Library
Join us for a joyful, hands-on art workshop inspired by Minhwa, the colorful and expressive tradition of Korean folk painting
In this Tiger and Magpie session, participants will paint one of Korea’s most beloved folk images—the playful tiger and cheerful magpie. In Korean culture, the tiger symbolizes courage, protection, and strength, while the magpie is a messenger of good news and happiness. The composition is beautifully complemented by the peony, a flower long associated with wealth, honor, and abundance.
With step-by-step guidance, you’ll create your own vibrant painting while learning about the stories and symbolism behind these timeless motifs. No prior art experience is needed—this workshop is designed to be relaxing, creative, and welcoming for everyone.
All materials are provided, and all skill levels are welcome. Come paint, learn, and enjoy a meaningful cultural art experience together.
RSVP required. Please email programs@sachemlibrary.org. Click Here for more detail.

Throughout East Asia, the pomegranate represents fertility, longevity, and abundant blessings, with its numerous seeds and distinctive red pouch-like appearance symbolizing prosperity and protection from evil spirits.
During 90 min., participants will delve into the rich tradition of Korean folk art. Through guided instruction, participants will not only learn to create beautiful paintings but also gain a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural significance behind the subject.
